Alliance Team En-route to Tanzania in November

A large Alliance Team of Surgical Educators will be arriving at the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania in early November. This is an international team consisting of 4 Israeli Surgeons and 3 American Surgeons who will work collaboratively with our Tanzanian surgical colleagues.

The Team will give two formal courses which at MNH: Vascular Surgery for General Surgeons and Basic Surgical Skills. The courses consist of formal Powerpoint Lectures, Laboratory work and dissection and Breakout Sessions to review basic concepts.

Dr. Doug Grey, one of our team members, has constructed 20 surgical skill simulator boxes, which he will bring to Tanzania as well as basic surgical instruments and sutures to be used in the Basic Surgical Skills Course. Of note, one of our Israeli volunteers is Dr. Moti Yair Levy, is a highly experienced Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. This is the first time we have had a Plastic Surgeon as a volunteer. Dr. Mkoma, the Chief of Surgery and a Plastic Surgeon himself, is looking forward to collaborating with Dr. Levy.
